Dear sirs,
we have read about the campaign launched by the zoo of Aalborg in
northern Denmark

which, as an act of supreme intelligence and morality, invites citizens
to deliver their unwanted pets to be fed to the carnivorous animals they
have imprisoned. Naturally, to alleviate the costs of maintenance.
But is the transformation of affection and respect into rejection and
betrayal acceptable? The transformation of the one we hosted in our
homes and who was part of our family into a body to be turned into food
for others? Love that becomes betrayal? Respect that becomes
insensitivity? Of course. For Homo deus, it is normal, even useful,
because it saves that money we have placed high on the altar of our
priorities.
On the other hand, if we think about all the monstrosities that mankind
has committed and continues to commit throughout its history, it is more
than normal. Homo Deus (Yuval Noah Harari) has the right to treat as he
wishes all those different from him, living and sentient (art. 13 of the
Lisbon Treaty of the European Union), conscious (Cambridge and New York
Declarations) but who wear black clothes, walk on four legs or fly or
swim instead of speeding down a magnificent Ferrari... Of course, yes.
He can, but he shouldn't. It is a right that is taken with the
brutality, violence, and impassivity that belong to him when he abandons
moral laws.
We are astonished that from an evolved nation like Denmark, such
retrograde, contradictory, and alienating proposals can arise, such as
inviting citizens to turn their pet animals into food from which they
want to be freed. In this way, they not only increase cruelty towards
these particularly protected animals, indifference, and illegality, but
also a cold, harsh, and indifferent behavior in humans, because, as Ovid
said, 'Cruelty towards animals is the training ground for cruelty
against humans.'
If there are problems in financially supporting zoos, why not eliminate
them? There are documentaries, organized trips, various opportunities to
learn about animals; it is unacceptable that to observe them, these
animals must be deprived of their freedom, stripped of their ethology,
turned into mere mechanisms for others' wonder. For zoo animals,
throwing food into their enclosure is not enough to make them lively;
they need exploration, ambushing, running, assault, and capture... They
are not automatic, insensitive mechanisms, products of artificial
intelligence.
Let the biological law follow its natural rhythm without interference,
let Nature act as Nature, do not take over its role, do not offer the
Aalborg Zoo, for survival, to exploit and increase the brutal behavior
of abandoning pets as if it were "a legally impeccable and logistically
simple way" to get rid of them.
Otherwise we would fall into that precipice of inhumanity, into that
moral, cultural and intellectual backwardness that would align us with
the behavior of the slavers masters and masters of other beings just
because they are different.
Animals must live according to their ethology, free to perform the role
for which they were born, and we have the duty to develop our humanity
that requires towards them: respect, empathy, honesty.
Hoping that the mechanistic nature of human consciousness returns to
that origin where Pythagoras said: Men will continue to kill each other
as long as they massacre animals. He who sows killing and pain cannot
reap joy and love.

che, come atto di suprema intelligenza e moralità, invita i cittadini a
consegnare i propri animali domestici, non più desiderati, per darli in
pasto agli animali carnivori da loro imprigionati. Naturalmente per
attenuare i costi di mantenimento.
Ma è accettabile la trasformazione dell'affetto e del rispetto in
rifiuto e tradimento? La trasformazione di colui/colei che ospitavamo
nelle nostre case e faceva parte della nostra famiglia in corpo da
tradurre in cibo per altri? Amore che diventa tradimento? Rispetto che
diventa insensibilità? Certo. Per l'Homo deus è normale, addirittura
utile, perchè risparmia quel denaro che abbiamo collocato in alto
sull'altare delle nostre priorità.
D'altra parte, se pensiamo a tutte le mostruosità che l'uomo ha compiuto
e compie durante la propria storia, è più che normale. L'Homo deus
(Yuval Noah Harari) ha il diritto di trattare come vuole tutti i diversi
da lui, viventi e senzienti (art. 13 Trattato di Lisbona dell'Unione
Europea) , coscienti (Dichiarazioni di Cambridge e di New York) ma
che indossano abiti neri, camminano con 4 gambe o volano o nuotano
anzichè sfrecciare su una magnifica Ferrari...... Certo che sì. Può, ma
non deve. E' un diritto che si prende con la brutalità, la
violenza, l'impassibilità che gli appartengono quando abbandona le leggi
morali.
Ci meravigliamo che da una Nazione evoluta come la Danimarca, possano
scaturire propositi tanto retrogradi, contraddittori, alienanti come
quello di invitare i cittadini a trasformare in cibo gli animali
d'affezione da cui vogliono liberarsi. Incrementano in questo modo non
solo la crudeltà verso questi animali particolarmente protetti,
l'indifferenza e l'illegalità, ma anche un comportamento freddo, duro e
indifferente negli umani perchè, come ha detto Ovidio: "La crudeltà
verso gli animali è tirocinio della crudeltà contro gli uomini".
Se ci sono problemi a sostenere economicamente gli zoo, perchè non
eliminarli? Esistono documentari, viaggi organizzati, possibilità varie
per conoscere gli animali, non è accettabile che per farli osservare si
debbano privare questi animali della loro libertà, depredare della loro
etologia, renderli meri meccanismi per la meraviglia altrui. Agli
animali degli zoo non basta il cibo gettato nel loro recinto per
renderli vivi, hanno bisogno della ricerca, dell'agguato, la rincorsa,
l'assalto, la cattura..... Non sono meccanismi automatici,
insensibili, prodotti dell'intelligenza artificiale.....
Lasciamo che la legge biologica segua il ritmo naturale senza
interferenze, lasciamo che la Natura agisca da Natura, non appropriamoci
del suo ruolo, non offriamo allo zoo di Aalborg, per sopravvivere, di
sfruttare e incrementare il comportamento brutale di abbandono degli
animali domestici come fosse "un modo legalmente ineccepibile e
logisticamente semplice" per liberarsene.
Altrimenti cadremmo in quel precipizio di disumanità, in quella
arretratezza morale, culturale e intellettuale che ci allineerebbe al
comportamento degli schiavisti padroni e signori di altri esseri solo
perchè diversi.
Gli animali devono vivere secondo la loro etologia, liberi di svolgere
il ruolo per cui sono nati, e noi abbiamo il dovere di sviluppare la
nostra umanità che richiede verso di loro: rispetto, empatia, onestà.
Sperando che il meccanicismo della coscienza umana torni a quell'origine
in cui Pitagora disse: Gli uomini continueranno ad ammazzarsi fra loro
fintantoché massacreranno gli animali. Colui che semina l'uccisione e il
dolore non può raccogliere la gioia e l'amore.
